Lyrics: Baby Baby [The Lover's Anthem] Campa Verse: I was just a young white boy, rolling like a boulder, when I saw this girl, looking over her shoulder, I told her, come with me, came away with me tonight, take a run with me, and let me pave the way tonight, I look into your eyes my heart grows wings and tries to fly, but I only get so high without you girl, You're everything I'm not, you make me wanna touch, we can take it off, do all that nasty stuff, I don't wanna talk, I just wanna "giggless", we've been through a lot, but you're the one I want cuzz Chorus: I don't got work, and you don't got school, I can take you out for dinner we can go get some food, I'ma call you on your celly and see what it do, we can hit the telly, and go get a room, cause, I don't got work, and you don't got school, Baby baby, baby baby, waiting for you is driving me crazy, Baby baby, you're my baby baby thinking of you is driving me crazy, Baby baby, baby baby, waiting for you is driving me crazy, Baby baby, you're my baby baby thinking of you is driving me crazy! Cyrano Verse: I was just a young brown boy, tryna be a soldier, when I saw this world, was only gunna get colder, so I folded, my pocket aces, I saw this girl, with a pretty little face and, I told her she could spend the night with me, Alone it's you and I, with nothing above but the moon and sky, but this will never feel so right without you girl, You're everything I'm not, you make me wanna touch, we can take it off, do all that nasty stuff, I dont wanna talk, I just wanna "giggless", we been through a lot, but you're the one I want cuzz Chrous: I don't got work, and you don't got school, I can take you out for dinner we can go get some food, I'ma call you on your celly and see what it do, we can hit the telly, and go get a room, cause, I don't got work, and you don't got school, Baby baby, baby baby, waiting for you is driving me crazy, Baby baby, you're my baby baby thinking of you is driving me crazy, Baby baby, baby baby, waiting for you is driving me crazy, Baby baby, you're my baby baby thinking of you is driving me crazy!

about

Two weeks ago, a mob of screaming teenagers overflowed from La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley. Hundreds more waited in an unruly ticket holders' line that snaked around the block. Some tried to beg and bribe their way inside the crowded venue.

"How much do you want?" one blond teenager asked the bouncer, flashing his wallet. "I'll give you money. I'll give you anything."

A few teens crept around the building, looking for a back entrance to break into the show. And the ones who didn't get in didn't go home - they prowled the sidewalk outside, listening to the muffled strains of music. Some even waited there until midnight. Mariola Fernandez, house manager of La Peña, said she'd never seen anything like it during the four years she's worked there.

What was making these kids so crazy?

The Cataracs. They're two electro-pop stars-to-be who were thrilled to be billed as Berkeley's "hometown heroes" at the Latino cultural center and ecstatic over the reception they got from their fans.

"We've got some momentum going in the Bay Area," said Niles Hollowell-Dhar, 19, a few days after the show, over a burrito at Gordo Taqueria on College Avenue. "And I'm not going to lie to you. Sometimes when I'm on stage, I feel like a sex symbol."

"Attention feels good," agreed his bandmate, David Singer-Vine, 20. "Especially when you've got something to say."

The Cataracs have been on the radar of Bay Area teens since the March release of the group's infectious single, "Baby Baby (The Lover's Anthem)." The song is a guilty pleasure - a catchy, clever ode to love, fun and the pleasures of being young. A sample lyric: "I don't got work and you don't got school/ I can take you out for dinner/ We can go get some food."

Earlier this summer, their fans deluged San Francisco radio station Wild 94.9 FM with requests for "Baby Baby," and in a couple of weeks the single rose to the second spot on the station's countdown. Then it was featured for a week on the MySpace music page, where it generated 25,000 hits a day. There's even a music video for the single, shot by Taj, an Oakland director who has made videos for Rihanna and LL Cool J.

And now the Cataracs say the song is turning the heads of New York record company executives - though they'd prefer not to say which ones.

Not bad for two Berkeley High classmates who still live at home and record and produce all their music in Hollowell-Dhar's small, laundry-strewn bedroom.
